Capitol 10K!

This past Sunday was the Capitol 10K.  This was my 5th year running the race, and I was more than a little nervous.  3 weeks ago I gave myself a hip abductor strain from overuse (aka training).  I had to sit out for 2 weeks and then start back up with elliptical.  Needless to say before the race I had only run 2.5 miles on the tred mill successfully.     I figured I could run the race but would probably have to walk a good portion of it as well.

Race day arrived and it was 38 degrees when I woke up (6:30am!).  Last year I ran the race in a tank top and shorts and finished in 55:37 (8:57/M).  This year was going to be much different, much slower due to my injury.  By race time, 8:45am, I think it was about 45 degrees.  My hardest times during the race were mile 3 and 5.  Mile 3 just seemed to take forever, and by mile 5 I was getting tired.  However, I ran the entire time!  No stopping or walking and I averaged about 10:18min miles.  :-)  I'm very happy with my time even though it was considerably longer than last year.  Running on an injury isn't easy and I thought for sure I'd have to walk.

Malek also ran the race, he did really well for his first 10K, finished in 57:28 mins.

Now I'm going to take it easy...no running for a while.  I need to let my body heal.  :-)

Ouchie....stupid hip

So....I hurt my hip again training for the Cap 10K. 2 weeks ago I over did it and now have a hip abductor strain.  I've had to take the last 2 weeks off running...didn't do anything for 1 week, then last week worked the elliptical and cycling.  That went well....however today was my first day back actually running.  SIGH.  I was only able to do 2 miles on the treadmill before I started to feel the strain, then switched to elliptical for another 2 miles.  And yup, my hip is throbbing again.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.  My Dr said I could run the race...but would probably be in pain.  I know I won't be able to obtain a decent time at all (last year finished in 55 mins...this year looking more like 1hr and 15 mins), and the most I have run is 4.2 miles straight.  Should be interesting come Sunday morning.  Wish me luck!

#23 - Go camping at least once a year (1/3)

I finally was able to go camping again (I wasn't able to make it out at all last year)!  This past weekend was perfect; awesome weather and beautiful a camp site at Pace Bend next to Lake Travis.  It only took about 1 min to walk down to the water.  We went during spring break so Malekbrought the kids and I brought Sarah.  She loved it!  She even went for a dip and fetched a couple sticks from the water.  Some friends came and joined us Friday night as well as Malek's mom.  We were all exhausted after 3 days and I'm glad we came back Saturday evening (we went out there Thurs afternoon).  It took Sarah another day to recover, she pretty much slept all day Sat and Sun.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

 Tues 3/17 - HAPPY ST. PATTY’S DAY!

Last night Katie & James, Tammy, Brent, Malek & I went to see Josh Turner at the Rodeo.  Man does that guy have a wonderfully deep voice.  :-)  We missed the Mutton Bustin' but caught the rest of the ProRodeo.  I love it when they play with the bull....they're going to need a new barrel after last night.

Traditional St Patty's day meal

#15 - Cook at least one home meal(s) a week  (46/143)

Sunday I decided to make my traditional St Patty's day meal.  Since St Patty's day falls on Tuesday this year, I decided to make it over the weekend so I'd have more time.  It takes 3+ hrs to cook the corned beef...but it's so worth it!  It's actually very easy to make and super yummy.  Malek had never tried it before and he was impressed.  Instead of cabbage(yuck) we had salad with a German salad dressing and mashed potatoes.  Excellent!

#74 - Find a new job/role at work

Just realized I never blogged about this....I'm still in the same group at work but I moved over to Custom Bids.  It is a new role with new responsibilities (which I'm grateful for), however, I still am doing my old job as well.  2x's the fun!

#75 - Achieve the next level at work
This is on hold with the current economy.  Work has said no merit increases this year...interesting...and promotions will be difficult to come by as well.

Mid week review

It's going to be a busy week.  My friend Karen flies in today for a round of interviews in Austin and is staying through the weekend.  I can't wait!

Sunday - volleyball (I played horribly tho)  :-(
Monday - cardio/weight class
Tuesday - Gave blood!  No working out for me.  :-)
Wednesday - jogged and elliptical at the gym, softball in the evening

I'll be playing the rest of the week by ear.  Friday I might make it to the gym at lunch time, but other than that no exercise plans.  I'm taking a 1/2 day on Friday to spend with Karen.  The rest of the week consists of pizza party, crawfish boil and BBQ fun!
